2. Course Title: Living Life's Emergencies: A Program for Our School System

One third of our population is involved with some part of the school system in this country. That linkage provides an extremely good conduit through which most of our population can become better prepared. Emergency preparedness education should begin at the elementary level and continue through high school. This 5-day course is designed for the school teacher or administrator who is interested in incorporating emergency preparedness skills (and a "Defensive Living" philosophy) into their everyday lessons, regardless of the class subject or grade level. Participants will learn how to apply the principles and concepts of organizing for survival situation management, positive mental attitude, body management, survival skills and knowledge of the environment to everyday classroom learning situations. An integral part of the class deals with the school disaster planning process for all locally appropriate hazards, development of the written plan and the establishment of procedures to implement that plan. Participants will gain an extremely good appreciation of how the schools fit into the overall coordinated community emergency management program. Detailed program outline sent upon request.
